Keeping the Promise of Lower Taxes
Ryan strongly believes that Virginia taxpayers both want and deserve th keep as much of their hard earned money as possible. That’s why he works hard to decrease the tax burden on all Virginians. One example is his legislative initiative to create a back to school sales tax holiday which would provide much needed relief for thousands of families as they purchase necessary school items for their children. Ryan also introduced legislation that led to the elimination of both the state sales tax on groceries and the accelerated sales tax collection on small business. Ryan knows that increasing government efficiency, cutting wasteful spending, reducing existing taxes and sticking to our past promises of tax relief are important and reachable goals.

Making Our Neighborhoods Safer
As a former prosecutor with the Hanover County Commonwealth’s Attorney Office, Ryan McDougle knows that tough laws are important in reducing crime and protecting our families and has successfully worked to establish a DNA database registering those who are arrested for violent felonies in Virginia. Ryan supports Virginia’s death penalty and no-parole policy. He has the crime-fighting experience we need to keep our neighborhoods safe for our families. Ryan serves on the Criminal Law Subcommittee, the Computer Crimes Task Force, the Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program, is a member of the Attorney General’s Anti-Gang Task Force, and helped former Attorney General Jerry Kilgore establish the groundbreaking Anti-Child Pornography Images Registry.

Providing Our Children with the Best Education
The son of a former school teacher and product of Virginia public schools, Ryan understands the importance of quality public education.  Ryan also supports Virginia’s high academic standards and accountability in our schools so parents and taxpayers know our children are getting an exceptional education and are well-prepared for the future.

Protecting Our Environment
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation named Ryan the 2004 Legislator of the Year noting that “The Bay Foundation relied heavily on Delegate McDougle for his environmental leadership during the legislative session.” As someone who enjoys the outdoors, Ryan deeply understands the importance of maintaining our natural environment. Ryan believes in protecting Virginia’s natural resources so that they may be enjoyed for generations to come.

Upholding the Second Amendment
Ryan is a strong supporter of our constitutionally guaranteed Second Amendment rights. Evidenced by his consistently supportive voting record on Second Amendment issues, Ryan regularly receives an “A” rating from the NRA. He has grown up an avid sportsman who will continue to support Second Amendment.
